Normatec Pulsed Compression Therapy
Traditional compression therapy used therapeutic socks or stockings made with elastic, which constrict to allow veins to loosen. In 1998, bioengineer and rehabilitation physician Dr. Laura F. Jacobs created NormaTec® dynamic compression technology to treat patients with circulatory related disorders. Today, NormaTec’s patented compression technology is revolutionizing athlete recovery and repair.
What is NormaTec Pulse Recovery Systems?
The NormaTec PULSE Recovery Systems are dynamic compression devices designed for recovery and rehab.
Our systems include a control unit and attachments which go on the legs, arms, or hips. They use compressed air to massage your limbs, mobilize fluid, and speed recovery with our patented NormaTec Pulse Massage Pattern. All of our systems use NormaTec’s PULSE technology to assist athletes recover faster between trainings and after performance.
When applied, you will first experience a pre-inflate cycle, during which the connected attachments are molded to your exact body shape. The treatment will then begin by compressing your feet, hands, or upper quad (depending on which attachment you are using). Similar to the kneading and stroking done like a massage, each segment of the attachment will first compress in a pulsing manner and then release. This will repeat for each segment of the attachment as the compression pattern works its way up your limb.
The NormaTec Arm Attachment covers the length of the entire arm and shoulder.
The NormaTec Leg Attachment covers the length of the entire leg.
The NormaTec Hip Attachment covers the lower back, obliques, glutes, hamstrings, quads, abductors and adductors.
How does it work?
Cryotherapy works through vasoconstriction and biochemical pathways to evacuate inflammation from all blood vessels, tissues, organs and muscles in the body. It works with 3 simple process pulse, pressure and release.
Pulse: Instead of using static compression (squeezing) to transport fluid out of the limbs, NormaTec uses dynamic pulse compression to mimic the muscle pump of the legs and arms, greatly improving the movement of fluid out of the limbs after an intense workout.
Pressure: Due to pulse pressure gradient is created to keep fluids flow in the one-way valves in veins and lymphatic vessels to prevent fluid back flow. Every zone creates a optimal pressure to give maximal recovery results.
Release: Pressure is gradually released in each zone; this process ensures each zone of the limb gets enough rest between compression cycles to achieve maximum recovery.
Who uses Normatec Pulsed compression ?
Normatec is used by athletes and non-athletes to quickly recover from intense workout and improve the performance of their bodies and to recover from surgery, health conditions and aging.
- Athletes use Normatec on their arms, legs and hips (lower backs) to accelerate recovery by evacuating lactic acid and inflammation. Normatec increases blood flow and lymphatic drainage.
- Normatec is approved to treat chronic wounds by increasing blood flow and circulation.
- Normatec is approved to treat venous insufficiency and can eliminate and prevent varicose and spider veins.
- Normatec is approved to treat lymphedema and edema due to diabetes.
- It compliments with cryotherapy treatments, as Normatec after cryotherapy facilitates the elimination (detoxification) of this inflammation through the lymphatic system
From Olympic athletes to LeBron James, NormaTec compression technology is used daily by:
- NCAA players
- NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL teams
- The US Olympic Committee
- US Navy SEALs
- Some of the world’s best triathletes, cyclists, and runners
What are benefits of NormaTec Compression Therapy?
NormaTec can be used for a variety of health benefits. Most importantly it enhances blood flow to speed the body’s normal recovery process. This helps keep athletes fresh so that they can maximize performance. NormaTec helps athletes recover faster between training and after competitions, so they can train harder and perform better. Studies have also shown it enhances flexibility. Also assist in improving range of motion before a practice, game, or match. If you’re recovering from a recent injury or dealing with chronic soreness, NormaTec can help lessen pain sensitivity and reduce the intensity of delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS). Heavy weight lifters, long distance runners and marathoners alike may find benefit using NormaTec as a way to decrease muscle fatigue after acute exercise and enhance arterial blood flow.
How long is NormaTec Treatment session?
To see significant results it is recommended to use 20-30 min at 1 session. Session can go up to an hour depending on tolerance.
Can anyone use NormaTec?
We encourage anyone to try out NormaTec but there are a few contraindications for its use: Acute pulmonary edema, Acute thrombophlebitis, Acute congestive cardiac failure, Acute infections, Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), Episodes of pulmonary embolism, Wounds, lesions, or tumors at or near the site of application, Where increased venous and lymphatic return is undesirable, or Bone fractures or dislocations at or near the site of application.
